Ideas for Decorating Your Christmas Tree
Decorating your christmas tree is part science and part art. Some folks are naturally talented at it. While others struggle for a coherent design. It's easy to become overwhelmed with so many choices of ornaments, garland, lights and the like.
To use fake snow or to not use fake snow... that is the question. Those of us who come from locales where it actually snows in winter mock the fake stuff. We get more than enough of the real thing. But for those in warmer climates fake snow can lend an air of christmasy goodness in the midst of a decidely un-white christmas. Even if you do opt for the snow in the can technique, please, go easy. Less is more as they say. And remember to be cautious with it around children and pets. Read the container carefully for any warnings before using.
Tinsel, garland or both?
One should do it. Whichever one you like best. Garland has the distinct advantage of being one whole long strand. Way less messy and easier to apply and clean up. Tinsel on the other hand is a lot more fun to put on the tree. Especially for kids. So consider these things and decide which works for you.
Choosing christmas ornament styles.
For an elegant and sophisticated look you'll want to go with all ball ornaments. Either monochromatic or at most a two-tone design. Silver and gold. Red and green. But for this look no more than two colors and they must all be gorgeous round ornaments. Use clear lights on the tree. Finish it off with long, vertical applications of a wide, velvety christmas ribbon. Again one color, two at the most. Top your christmas tree with a large bow made from the self-same ribbon. Skirt the bottom of your tree with a soft, white, fluffy tree skirt that resembles freshly fallen snow. Perhaps one with a few elegant sparkles here and there.
Now if you're more of a free-spirit, fun-loving type of decorator we suggest you have lots of fun with it. Collect an array of various and uniquely shaped christmas ornaments that reflect yours and your family's different personalities. Make sure to have some ornaments related to each individual in your home and family-circle. Go with colorful lights for your free. Ones that blink are that much more fun. Add lots of tasty and colorful candy canes. Maybe some popcorn garland and sparkling tinsel too. Skirt your christmas tree with a christmasy colored plaid blanket.
For a truly unique christmas tree think totally outside of the christmas box. Create a unique theme for your christmas tree. Maybe you're into old westerns. Or collecting coca cola bottles. Or sports: hockey, baseball, whatever. Decorate your christmas tree, even your whole house around this one central theme. We have plenty of thematic christmas ornaments to help get you started in this endeavor. Buy or create garlands that fit your theme. Using the matching colors is an easy way to do that. Also use christmas tree lights that feature matching colors to your motif. Skirt your tree in the same way. For instance, If you're into Phillies baseball, use a Philadelphia Phillies fleece throw to wrap around the base of the tree. You could make ornaments from inexpensive baseball cards. Or purchase team logo ornaments. Hollow out a baseball to create a tree topper.
However you decide to ornament your christmas tree and decorate your holiday home we hope that you've found some fun new ideas here and that all your holidays are merry and bright.
